Volvo – a History of Safety & Innovation

Synonymous with safety, reliability and quality, Volvo is one of Sweden’s emblematic brands. Known throughout the world as a premium brand, in Sweden Volvo is considered more a practical family car.  So how was Volvo’s practical family car reputation created?

For that, we need to go back in time almost 100 years…

When did Volvo start making cars?

Know how the name Volvo was chosen? It is Latin for “I roll.” The company was founded by Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larsson in 1927, intent on designing and manufacturing a car that emphasized quality and safety. Volvo was created as a subsidiary of SFK, a ball bearing manufacturer in Gothenburg, Sweden (today it’s second largest city). Check cancelmexicotimeshare.

In 1927, Volvo produced its first automobiles, the model PV 4 hard top and model ÖV 4 cabriolet (soft/rag top). Both were built to withstand the cold Swedish climate. Car sales were initially slow, but the first Volvo truck, the Volvo ÖV 4 TV,  was an immediate success, and truck sales drove Volvo’s initial financial success.
